mesmerized by the quality of light

Sunlight on snow this morning and the intensity of it woke me out of my winter fog.  I felt energized.  Such a difference the light makes.  It is still cold, below freezing all day.  I did go outside a couple times but it was too cold to wander around with my camera.  I needed my heaviest mittens.  So I contented myself with taking photos out the window.  I could not stop looking.

Everything was beautiful in the light

The above photos were taken at mid-day.  And then as the day went on, the light became less intense.  Yesterday I watched the snow turn gold, then pink, then blue as the sun sank lower and lower.

Yesterday, I walked down the driveway to get the mail and check the road conditions.  My driveway is fairly long, through the woods, about an eighth of a mile.  It was very slow going. Snowshoes actually might have helped.  I have never before wished for snowshoes!  As it was, each step meant bringing my knee up almost waist high to get through the deep snow.  It was hard work.  I had to rest a couple times.  Coming back was easier, since I had broken a trail.  Today when I walked down again, following my steps from the previous day, I noticed that a deer had walked in my footsteps.  Even crossing from one side of the drive to the other, as I had done.  It made me feel very connected in some way.  That I was able to make a path for others.
